Parent FAQ's
How can I help my student?
Encourage your student to get ahead of the minimum pace. Being ahead of pace ensures the student's grade is always good, allows the student more time on sections they find challenging, and makes unexpected absences much easier. Parents are more than welcome to watch videos as well! All four teachers give time outside of class to help students as well. Encourage your student to use all class time wisely, do 10-20 minutes of work a day outside of class, and attend seminar for extra help. If your student needs more help, all schools offer a Lab course that would give them an additional period to work on mathematics.
What should I do if my Internet is slow or not working?
Nothing worse than a slow buffer. Luckily, all videos and resources are available to the students at anytime. We have DVD's of all our videos that we can loan out to students. Having said that, it is not necessary to have a computer or Internet access at home for this program. It helps, but is not required. Contact your teacher for assistance.
Can my student finish early?
YES! That would be awesome. As soon as a student finishes a course, they can begin on the next course. Discuss this possibility with your teacher.
Can my student finish later?
Sure. The goal is mastery learning and sometimes this takes a bit longer. See our grading policy for more clarification on this. It may take some students 1.5 years to finish Algebra. This is WAY better than failing the first semester and re-taking the course the following year. If your student is falling way behind, please talk to your teacher and try to enroll them into a Lab class. Nearly 100% of students pass first semester during the year, these students can take 2nd semester through Virtual School over the summer to stay on track for graduation.
