I grew up in Oregon City, OR (suburb of Portland) and am the 10th of 11 kids. I graduated from Brigham Young University with a BA in History and received an MS in Education with an emphasis on Integrating Technology in the Classroom from Walden University. I have taught in Orem, Utah (1 year), San Antonio, Texas (2 years), Baumholder, Germany (8 years), and have been at Ramstein High School since the fall of 2012.
I have 5 wonderful kids, whose good looks all come from their mom. I love the Portland Trailblazers, which means winter time can be rough as I lose sleep getting up early to watch them lose. I enjoy playing basketball, softball, snow and water skiing, and pretending like I know what I’m doing on the golf course. I have coached several sports at the high school level, including basketball, football, softball, tennis, and golf.
Professionally, one of the greatest things that has happened to me over the last 15 years is to have taught every grade level of mathematics from 7th grade math through AP Calculus (except for statistics). This has allowed me to see the progression of mathematics and pitfalls kids have at every secondary grade level. I am well prepared to help a child progress to their next level, regardless of where they currently are.

While teaching in San Antonio, I was honored as the First Year Educator of the Year for the Northside Independent School District, a district of over 10,000 employees. While working for DoDEA, I was selected as the lead evaluator for Virtual School Math Analysis Curriculum Mapping (2009) and DoDEA’s Textbook Selection Committee (2010). I have presented on several occasions with my friend and colleague Tim Kelly to administrators and teachers on vertical teaming within a department as well as creating an atmosphere of rigorous AP classes. In 2011, I was invited to the White House by the President of the United States to be recognized with the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching, the highest award a math teacher can receive in the United States. I received this award while teaching at Baumholder, which made Tim Kelly and I back-to-back winners of this prestigious award. You can read a little about my award here.
